As rotas protoplasmáticas são uma instalação audiovisual composta por uma projeção de vídeo de piso de aproximadamente 3×3 metros, áudio, um contorno de farinha, quatro velas acesas, sem cheiro, e uma sala escura. Ao longo da linha de exploração da empatia para com uma forma de vida não humana, eu aprimoro minha conexão com mundos imaginários que percebo entre dimensões microscópicas e macroscópicas. Permeada por Panspermia, coletividade e pesquisa científica em computadores biológicos e tecnologias úmidas, esta visão fictícia da existência humana contemporânea tem como objetivo trazer uma abordagem esperançosa e talvez até humorística para a convivência humana a partir de uma perspectiva pós-humana.

Protoplasmic routes is a large scale audiovisual installation.  The story line focuses on the evolution of humanity and our vital relationships with technology and the microorganisms that have been our symbionts and co-travelers since our species emerged millions of years ago.  Along the line of exploration of empathy for a non-human form of life, this project reveals a metaphor and a temporal reality exploring the complex interactions of the growth, movement, and learning of Physarum polycephalum, a plasmodial slime mold.  By visualizing the slime mold’s mastery of acrylic mazes built on Petri dishes and contemplating its self-awareness, compassion is built between this species and our own.  This fictional vision of contemporary human existence is narrated by a microscopic elder consciousness personified by a computerized voice.  The work aims to bring a hopeful, and perhaps even humorous approach to coexistence between all forms of life from a post-human perspective.

Axel Cuevas Santamaría, é um artista mexicano de mídia nova latino, com sede em Columbus OH, que atua no meu grau MFA na Ohio State University. Eles funcionam flutuam entre as instalações AV, multimídia interativa e BioArt. Através dele, o trabalho explore o mistério dos mundos imaginários que percebem entre dimensões microscópicas e macroscópicas e a relação intrínseca entre a Natureza, a Tecnologia e a Experiência Humana.

Axel Cuevas Santamaría, is a Mexican born Latin American new media artist currently based in Columbus OH pursuing his MFA degree 2018 at The Ohio State University.  His work fluctuates between audiovisual installation, interactive multimedia and BioArt.  He explores the threshold of phenomenological perception, audience attention, and the mystery of imaginary worlds he perceives between microscopic and macroscopic dimensions.
